I remember when once,
a dragon we saw,
a dragon who was
chased by the sun.

I saw him again
in my dreams, this
time, & this is what
to me he said:

"The essence of wind,
& shores am I, so
part of the sea is my soul.
So linked to these breasts
of the ground, am I,
that my life is spent
rapt to the sky.

"A soul do I have,
& a will have I too;
but brass, cold & hard
in the wind.
For the sea do I love,
the wind do I too,
but of the two can not
I choose.

"This life that I have
is all that I have,
this life that I now give to you.
Mourn not for my loss,
from sea or from sky
but instead let it give
life its' joy."

Now sorrow,
for the sky is grey.

This poem was written for my fiancee.

We're both big fans of fantasy, and we had a conversation similar to this that I will treasure forever.

Anyhow, I like to keep myself out of the poems, so I tried to.

This hearkens back to a poem Wilfred Owen (though it may have been Apollonaire), I believe it was called "Code Poem to the French Resistance", so some of the lines are tribute to that.

And believe it or not, there is meter to this, that I made up in a moment of inspiration, I'll explain it if you really care.

I tapped this out, it has an interesting beat that throws me off a little bit, which works to put the brakes flow and makes me pause to think at certain points of the poem that are most important. The lines "This life that I have is all that I have, this life that I now give to you - really work. I love those lines, they are very beautiful. They make me think of weddings, life long commitments of devotion and love.
I bet that she really likes and treasures this poem. Good job on this.

Thanks a lot.

I wish I could take full credit for that line, but the first half of that line is from the poem...

...plagarist, I hope not.
